Student: Elise Miller
Grade: 8
Teacher: Katy Taricano
School: Robert Adams Middle School

Elise is an 8th grader at Robert Adams Middle School. For this assignment, students learned about the communicative power of art and how propaganda can be expressed through art to show either the artist’s or the patron’s ideas and beliefs. Students then learned about the proportions of the human face and used those ideas with the power of observation to create a self portrait. Using micography, a technique where the lines and forms are replaced with text, students expressed their own personal propaganda by conveying at least ten positive words about themselves. Elise’s art exemplifies the objectives of this assignment by displaying correct proportions of the face and by creatively applying the words to create a unique self-portrait.
