Student: Erika Bridges
Course: Painting
Teacher: Zachary Shiff

This assignment asked students to consider their favorite musical genre, and how it could be represented visually. Students were asked to first: create a playlist of artists that related to a specific genre, second: generate several sketches in their sketchbook of different aspects of the musical lifestyle associated with the genre, and lastly: use those sketches as inspiration for a final work. Students were asked to incorporate human figures, musical performance, and an interior or exterior space utilizing either collage or abstract layering of imagery. Erika chose to show her love for arena rock in this piece. Erika used careful observation and reference photography to capture the energy and essence of a crowded music venue, specifically the waving hands of adoring fans. Erika also showcased how an artist needs to take daring risks incorporating everything from concert tickets to fabric to capture the complete experience. Erika's piece is incredibly successful in evoking the bright lights and blaring sound of a rock music concert.
