Research: Sleep Habits of Holliston Middle and High School Students

 

According to the 2014 Youth Risk Behavior Survey data, on an average night:

  • 57% of female students at the Robert Adams Middle School get 8 or more hours of sleep
  • 71% of male students at the Robert Adams Middle School get 8 or more hours of sleep
  • 25% of female students at Holliston High School get 8 or more hours of sleep
  • 39% of male students at Holliston High School get 8 or more hours of sleep
  • Breakdown by grade:
    • 72% of 7th graders get 8 or more hours of sleep
    • 54% of 8th graders get 8 or more hours of sleep
    • 38% of 9th graders get 8 or more hours of sleep
    • 36% of 10th graders get 8 or more hours of sleep
    • 28% of 11th graders get 8 or more hours of sleep
    • 17% of 12th graders get 8 or more hours of sleep

According to more recent student survey conducted in January 2017, by the Superintendent’s Task Force on Student Stress, students reported that on average, they sleep:

Finally, for the period August 2016 through December 2016, the average number of students who were officially logged as tardy was 28 per day at Holliston High School (3.5% of the school population) and 20 per day at the Adams Middle School (3.0% of the school population).
